Mendelssohn Complete String Quartets are hard to find on CD. This reissue by the Talich Quartet offers terrific playing and outstanding sound. The interpretations are spontaneous enough to seem live.
"Here is a set of brilliant performances of Mendelssohn's Complete String Quartets. The Talich Quartet illuminates the music but never blind the listener with empty demonstration of the player's virtuosity. Included in the booklet is a long, excellent historical and descriptive note, which has been translated (as it notoriously not always the case) into good English prose. An outstanding issue."
Gramophone Magazine
Debussy, String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10
Ravel, String Quartet in F major
This new recording where the Slavic accents of the four Prague natives meet French genius, is truly marvellous. The album represents a new phase in the quartet's career that will highlight the sheer versatility of this talented group so proud of its roots.
"Supreme performances (...) The interpretations are so organically and seamlessly imagined (...) The subtlety, beauty and sinew of the playing are simply amazing." - Gramophone

In fifty years, the Talich family has developed a style, a sound, an approach and a musical philosophy that is perpetuated and enriched by new members. They have been able to maintain both a light tone and dense meaning, a spontaneous expression as well as a highly charged musical past, unexpected accents with great tradition, and an innate sense of popular references combined with a culture transmitted from generation to generation, the signature of their elders.
The Talich Quartet now records for La Dolce Volta.
